Collegiate Staff Positions

University of Illinois. Director of Sports Nutrition. 11/21/14
Assess and counsel student-athletes on optional nutritional practices for exercise training, competition, recovery from practice, recovery from injury and illness, weight management, hydration and supplementation, as well as managerial oversight of all aspects of the sports nutrition program.

Requirements: Master's degree in nutrition or related field required. Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian (in State of Illinois, or eligible for licensure upon hire), and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) required. Minimum of three years' experience working as a dietitian with an athletic population required. Preference within a collegiate environment. Sound clinical nutrition skills and a strong background in sports nutrition and or exercise physiology required.

Michigan State University. Sports Dietitian. 11/11/14

The sports dietitan will provide nutrition services for the MSU athletic department; educate and counsel athletes on optimal nutrition; counsel and follow up with athletes on achieving/maintaining body composition; collaborate with physicians, coaches and other health professionals; document nutrition services; evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition strategies, develop and select menus for certain sports; work in collaboration with sports and cardiovascular nutrition; oversee dietetic interns and students.

NC State University. Director of Sports Nutrition. 11/11/14
This position provides nutrition counseling and education for all student athletes in order to show enhancement in sport specific performance including team education and practical advice through grocery store tours, cooking demos, etc; individual nutritional counseling; training table design, implementation and monitoring; monitoring of athlete campus dining hall attendance and usage; menu development for pre and post game, along with travel menu development; body composition and bone evaluation; assists coaches with recruiting, supervises students and interns.

University of North Carolina. Head Sports Nutritionist. 11/6/14

Responsibilities include providing individual nutrition counseling to student-athletes and sport specific nutrition education to teams and staff.
  Assisting with training table meals and working with foodservice staff to plan nutritionally complete meals, pre-competition and recovery meals.  Researching, evaluating, and recommending appropriate nutritional supplements with regard to NCAA rules and regulations.  Collaborating with other members of the sports medicine staff and assisting with management of care. Communicating with and presenting to coaches, staff and administration on nutritionally relevant topics.  Educating and mentoring interns and volunteer staff.  Lecturing and teaching across campus both inside and outside of the classroom setting.

University of Georgia. Assistant or Associate Professor, Department of Foods and Nutrition. 9/9/2014
The University of Georgia has announced a 9-month, tenure-track sports nutrition faculty position opening. Responsibilities include developing a nationally recognized and extramurally funded research program, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in nutrition, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, serving as the Director for the Area of Emphasis in Sport Nutrition and servicing the public, the university, the department, and profession. All applicants must have a PhD in nutrition or closely related scientific field and have potential for, or be, national recognized for expertise related to sports nutrition.  For the assistant professor position, one year of post-doctoral experience is preferred. For the associate professor position, at least three years of teaching and research experience is required.

Graduate Assistant and Internship Positions

University of Tennessee. Sports Nutrition Internship. 12/17/15.
The Univeristy of Tennessee athletic department is accepting applications for a Sports Nutrition Intern. This is a 6 month position with the possibility of a full year if both parties agree. A preferred start date of January 5, 2015 is needed. This position will assist the Sports Dietitian with the following: administrative tasks, nutrition assessment (dietary and anthropometric), maintain nutrition care plans, student-athlete education, development of educational materials, food record entry and analysis, meal planning and design, ordering, storing and distributing NCAA compliant snacks and supplements, gain knowledge of state-of-the-art technological methods of nutrition assessment and behavior change. Act as an additional nutrition resource for staff athletic trainers, coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, medical staff and food service personal.

International Positions

The University of British Columbia. Dual Position: Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition and Sports Dietitian. 9/16/2015
The part-time lecturer in sport and exercise nutrition position is to be paired with a part-time sports dietitian position in athletics and recreation. The successful candidate will spend approximately 50% of the time working in the School of Kinesiology and the other 50% of the time working as an applied sports dietitian for the department of athletics and recreation. 
Part-time 12-month lecturer position: Applicants must have earned an MSc and/or PhD in nutrition, exercise science or a closely related area. The successful candidate will mainly teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sports and exercise nutrition.
Sports dietitian position: Applicants must have earned a BSc in dietetics or nutritional science as well as the IOC diploma in sports nutrition. Applicants must also be a registered dietitian in good standing with the College of Dietitians of BC, be a member of Dietitians of Canada and hold professional liability insurance. The successful candidate will provide nutrition consultation services to athletes.

ACEND Internship Opportunities with Specialization in Sports Nutrition

Ohio State University Medical Dietetics is approved to offer two internships to specialize in Sports Nutrition while accomplishing the ACEND Internship requirements to qualify to take the National Registration exam.  Interns will work in a variety of rotations to accomplish the required objectives, but the experience will focus on sports nutrition opportunities at the university, in the community and schools, as well as food service in athletics.  Only students intending  a career in sports nutrition should apply to this specific program.  Applications are accepted through DICAS using matching code 704.  This is a MS Combined program and students are required to finish the Masters.  Click here to learn more.
